Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a mentoring program based throughout the United States. The organization pairs up "littles" who are children in need of a role model with "bigs" volunteer to spend a few hours every week with their "little". The Big Brothers Big Sisters organization at Susquehanna University works work the national organizatoin based in the Susquehanna Valley to organize programs for littles in the area. Big Brothres Big Sisters of the Susquehanna Valley gives our organization a list of littles who are match or unmatched with bigs. We then plan parties and events for the littles and match up interested college students with littles nearby.

I have been a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters since first coming to Susquehanna and I have been on the executive board since my spring semester freshmen year. In the past I have served as Correspondents Committee Head and last January I was elected Secretary.

Students In Free Enterprise

Students In Free Enterprise, also known as SIFE, is a organization that carries out different volunteer projects related to Business. Since my freshmen year I have been involved in two projects, the ethics competition and the "Don't Buck Your Future" project. For the ethic competition I worked with a group of about 10 other student to create an prompt for grade school students to respond to. The prompt included an scenario where the subject was presented with an ethical decision and the grade to students had to write and esssay explaining what they would do in that situation. Once we received the entries we read through all of them and picked a first, second, and third place winner. After the winners were annouced they were invited to our school and we held an awards ceremony in their honor.

The second project I was involved in, "Don't Buck Your Future" included me and two other students. We prepared and presented information to local Selinsgrove High School Students about post-highschool options. Some of the ares we covered included college, techniqual school, the military, and the work force.
